Gov. Mitch Daniels has signed into law a bill that should make it easier for Hoosiers to dispose of unused and expired medicines. Currently, state law and regulatory requirements make it difficult for drugstores to accept leftover prescription medicines, as they do in many states, because a police officer must be present when the drugstore collects the unused medicine. House Bill 1121, authored by Rep. Kevin Mahan, R-Hartford City, gives the Indiana Board of Pharmacy the authority to rewrite those rules so that drug stores and health clinics can more easily serve as drop-off locations for expired drugs.
