The American Pharmacists Association (APhA) Foundation announced honorees of the 2011 Pinnacle Awards. The Pinnacle Awards, established in 1998 by the APhA Foundation's Quality Center, celebrate significant contributions to the medication use process through increasing patient adherence, reducing drug misadventures, promoting the use of national treatment guidelines, improving patient outcomes or enhancing communication among the members of the health care team.

The Individual Award for Career Achievement was given to Mel Baron, PharmD, MPA, FAPhA, FACA, FCPhA – Associate Professor at the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. The Medication Assistance Program (MAP) at The Ohio State University Medical Center (OSUMC) and Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (The James) received the award for Group Practices, Health-Systems, Health Care Corporations. The award for Voluntary Health Agencies, Non-profit Organizations, Associations, Government Agencies and Public/Private Partnerships was given to the Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services Collaborative (PSPC).

The PSPC is a national breakthrough effort to improve the quality of health care across America by integrating patient-centered clinical pharmacy services into the care and management of high-risk, high-cost, medically complex patients.
